finishing the photo montage (view it here:- https://youtu.be/1muIi40_Itk )
so just some words to wrap up the week.
Well one really… AWESOME!!
We have done so much, but along with all the fun and activities it has been
great to see the development of the Scouts in such a short period. Being
away from home comforts (and mobile phones) they have developed social
skills and made new friendships. With us being such a large Scout Troop with
children from different schools and surrounding villages\towns many do not
actually know each other that well. Camps likes this throws them all in
together and it is fantastic to see the new friendships develop that they
will take back to Troop nights on Fridays.

Seeing them grow in confidence, encourage, and support each other is
amazing too. Not only on the activities but during the camp. Some of the
younger ones get a little tearful as missing home, but it's the older Scouts
that chat with them and tell them not to worry as they were in the same
situation a few short years ago and know what it was like. They then become
their 'big brother\sister' for a few hours and before you know it the upside
down smiles are the right way up 😊 You just know that in a couple of years'
time those that needed comforting will be those helping the young one – the
circle of Scouting.

Also, Scouts that may normally find everyday tasks challenging seem to rise
above them while away on camp. I'm sure it's the independence and freedoms
they are given on camp and spending time with peers that are able to help is
the reason for this. For example, doing the breakfast as a 'buffet', they
learn they can help themselves, make their own choices, clean up after
themselves or even get breakfast for a friend.

It may not be 'Traditional Scouting' but it works and teaches skills for
life.
life.
Now that the montage is done and the Scouts and Parents\Careers look back at
it, I'm sure they will realise how much we crammed into the camp and why
their child is so tired. Within 15 minutes of lights out each night the
rooms were silent – so if your child says they were up all night talking it
was only in their sleep or dreams 😁

They were so well behaved and such a credit to themselves, their families
and Scouting. It should be mentioned that staff at Namco Bowling, Combat
Paintballing, Norfolk Snowsports, Gravity Jump Park, Pleasurewood Hills,
Frankie & Benny's and Brecklands Leisure Centre all commented on how polite
and behaved the Scouts were. I am mega proud of every single one of them.
It certainly was a busy, active, fun filled week with loads of smiles and
laughter. So sitting here in silence while typing this is a bit surreal now,
but it won't be long until the next activity where we will hear that
laughter again and see those great big grins!

Finally, a big thank you to the awesome team of leaders who helped on the
camp and all bring different skills sets and experiences to provide the best
opportunities we can for the Scouts. We all have different backgrounds,
jobs, careers and life experiences but are great friends inside and outside
of Scouting, get as much out of it as the children and we hope this shines
through in all that we do.

To sum it up…
Children can be amazing if given the opportunity and I hope that all the
Scouts that came to Spring Camp have returned home with newfound confidence
and experiences that will help them later in life and memories that will
last a life time - I know I will
